How does Bitcoin work?
As we all know, Bitcoin’s transaction system is decentralized. Everyone who holds the coin will have all the historical transaction information that has ever happened, including any transactions to any digital wallet. If the transaction is successful (by verifying the transaction with bitcoin miner resources), those transactions will be kept in the same order as the documents contained in the box. These boxes will be closed and sorted with the previous box until the total number of transactions has been collected. This is how blockchain works.

In the Bitcoin economy, There’s always a competition to verify blocks. Miners who use their own strength to compete in the transaction will receive a block reward which will be distributed to participated miners. For example, if there’s a successful confirmation of Bitcoins transaction, Excavators will receive bitcoins as a reward.
What is Bitcoin Halving?
Bitcoin Halving system reduces block reward by half (or 50%) for miners. Bitcoin is fully limited to 21 million coins, and to prevent inflation, for every 210,000 Blocks (about 4 years per time), the reward will be reduced, so the amount of Bitcoin supply is limited and increasingly rare.

The more miners (also known as transaction confirmers) that have a large number of powerful distribution tools and processing resources, would result in a solid network security accordingly before the Bitcoin was created.

Satoshi had deduced the plans to support the “economic value” of bitcoin with proportional demands and supply from the users, and miners who support the system in a decentralized manner powered by blockchain. Also Halving and difficulty system was created in the same way as we define gold rarity.

Normally, each block is created every 10 minutes. With the faster and competitive computing power, the successive miners will be rewarded.
Historical Bitcoin Halving Events
  • In 2012
The first halving began at the value of $2.01 US Dollars per BTC which the reward was reduced to 25 BTC per block. As time passed by, Bitcoin price had grew to $270.94 (+13,480%).
  • In 2016
The second halving began at the value of $664.44 which the block reward had been reduced by half from 25 BTC to 12.5 BTC. It resulted in a mass adoption of bitcoin which people were craving over in 2017, and reached it all-time-high price at $20,000 US dollars.
  • In 2020
We are going to experience another halving event which will further reduce the rewards to 6.25 BTC per block. Let’s see what is going to happen next!
Why do we have Bitcoin Halving?
  • To Extend Mining Process
Normally, new 1,800 bitcoins are created everyday, but after the halving occurs this number may reduce by half (900 Bitcoin per day) which will extend the period of full 21m bitcoin discovery
  • To Minimize Inflation
Bitcoin has it’s limited supply (unlike fiat money) and people can take hold of it in fractions.
  • The Price Effect
Due to its flexibility and limited supply, it is now a game time for its value according to demand and supply theory.
