BlackRock Drives Huge $526M Surge in Bitcoin ETFs

BlackRock Takes the Wheel in Huge ETF Rebound
Institutional interest in crypto came back with a bang on Monday as U.S. spot BitcoinBTC-1.37% exchange-traded funds pulled in a massive $526.6 million in net gains. This marked the largest single-day influx for these financial products in almost a month.
However, if you look under the hood, one single fund did all the heavy lifting. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) single-handedly attracted $665.2 million in fresh capital, according to market data from SoSoValue. This stood out as IBIT's biggest single-day performance since October 7 of last year.
To put this in perspective, the entire group of U.S. spot Bitcoin funds hasn't seen a bigger combined day since September 22, when they pulled in $714.7 million.
Outflows and Inflows: A Tale of Two Stories
While BlackRock celebrated major inflows, not every ETF provider shared the enthusiasm. Other major funds actually experienced net cash outflows during Monday's trading session:
- Fidelity's FBTC saw withdrawals totaling $83.6 million.
- Grayscale's GBTC shed $54.9 million.
- All other U.S. spot Bitcoin funds reported zero net flows.
Because buying activity was so heavily concentrated in BlackRock, the massive gains in IBIT easily swallowed up the sell-offs from Fidelity and Grayscale. While these institutional inflows signal renewed market engagement, investors should remember that fund flows and crypto prices can change quickly based on shifting macroeconomic conditions.
Past performance of digital assets or financial products does not guarantee future results.
Checking In on October's Total Balance Sheet
Monday's huge $526.6 million influx was a welcome change of pace for fund managers. It completely erased the previous week's losses, which had seen $228.5 million pulled out of these products.
Despite this solid recovery, spot Bitcoin funds are still slightly in the red for the month of October overall. According to calculations by CoinDesk using SoSoValue figures, the funds remain down by approximately $90.5 million for the month.
EthereumETH-1.84% Funds Experience a Fourth Straight Day of Losses
While Bitcoin funds enjoyed a bumper day, spot Ethereum funds faced a very different reality. Ether ETFs recorded a total loss of $103.3 million on Monday, marking their fourth consecutive session of negative flows.
Interestingly, BlackRock was at the center of the Ethereum moves as well, but in the opposite direction. BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) accounted for the bulk of these redemptions, with investors withdrawing $95.4 million.
