Visa and Mesh Partner to Simplify Everyday Crypto Spending

On October 19, 2026, payment network giant Visa announced a partnership with crypto infrastructure platform Mesh. Together, they plan to let consumers spend cryptocurrency and stablecoins directly at more than 175 million merchant locations across over 200 countries and territories.
Around the time of the announcement, Bitcoin (BTCBTC+1.28%) was trading near $81,945 (+1.29%), while EthereumETH+1.78% stood around $2,399 (+2.09%). However, digital asset prices remain inherently volatile, so short-term price movements can happen quickly.
Saying Goodbye to Dedicated Crypto Cards
For years, spending cryptocurrency at ordinary retail stores required extra work. Consumers usually had to apply for a separate crypto debit card, wait for physical delivery, or manually sell their crypto for cash inside an app before paying.
This new arrangement aims to solve that friction by connecting existing digital wallets directly to Visa's global payment infrastructure. Consumers won't need to open new bank accounts or order specialized plastic cards just to use their crypto balances.
How the Seamless Checkout Works Behind the Scenes
Under the planned setup, Mesh acts as an invisible bridge between digital wallet platforms and Visa's payment rails. When a shopper makes a purchase, here is what happens in real time:
- Tap or Click to Pay: The customer uses their existing wallet balance at standard contactless point-of-sale terminals or online checkouts.
- Visa Routes the Transaction: Visa payment credentials handle the signal through established card networks.
- Mesh Handles Conversion: Mesh automatically converts supported cryptocurrencies, fiat-backed stablecoins, or fiat currencies in the background.
- Merchants Get Paid Normally: Store owners receive standard cash payouts without buying extra hardware or altering checkout routines.
"Crypto never had a spending problem—it has a last-mile problem, and until now, closing it meant getting a separate card," said Bam Azizi, CEO and co-founder of Mesh.
Bridging a $14.2 Trillion Network with 774 Million Crypto Owners
The statistics highlight why both companies are tackling this space. Visa processed an astounding $14.2 trillion in payments during fiscal year 2025. Meanwhile, global crypto ownership reached roughly 774 million people by June 2026.
Despite this massive audience, crypto card spending totaled only about $1.5 billion per month in late 2025. That shows a clear gap between holding digital assets and actually using them for everyday expenses.
Mesh already connects with over 200 enterprise partners, including popular wallet providers, exchanges, and financial services platforms. By linking those connections to Visa, the integration could significantly broaden payment options for users.
Regulatory Onboarding and What Details Are Still Pending
To keep transactions compliant across various jurisdictions, Mesh will manage user onboarding and Know Your Customer (KYC) identity checks. This arrangement allows digital wallet apps to offer seamless spending features without running their own card programs.
Rubail Birwadker, Visa's Global Head of Growth, emphasized that the collaboration helps expand how digital asset balances connect to established payment services.
However, several practical details remain unconfirmed:
- Official Launch Date: Neither Visa nor Mesh has shared an exact timeline for public availability.
- Participating Platforms: The initial list of supported wallet apps and exchange platforms has not been released.
- Supported Devices: Hardware compatibility and specific mobile app features will be announced closer to rollout.
Visa Expands Commercial Stablecoin Operations
This partnership reflects Visa's broader efforts in the digital asset space. In a parallel initiative, Visa recently moved its massive stablecoin payment pilot into full commercial production alongside payment infrastructure provider Inyo Global.
While payment integrations make digital assets more accessible, investors and users should stay mindful of market volatility and regulatory shifts in the crypto industry.
Past performance of digital assets or enterprise payment networks is not indicative of future results. Market data can be tracked on official venues like Bitkub Market.
