Ripple Expands South Korean Reach to Securities and Bonds

RippleXRP-5.30% Builds Institutional Infrastructure in South Korea
Ripple is continuing to build out its financial network in South Korea. The blockchain solutions firm recently announced a major new partnership with Meritz Securities on October 14, 2026, focused on custody and digital asset tokenization.
This agreement makes Meritz Securities the fourth South Korean institutional partner to team up with Ripple this year. It is also Ripple's first partnership within the South Korean brokerage and securities industry.
Meritz Securities joins a growing roster of Korean institutions using Ripple's tech. Other partners include Kyobo Life Insurance, digital bank Kbank, and regional lender Jeonbuk Bank, each applying Ripple's tools to different parts of the financial market.
Inside the Meritz Securities Agreement
The deal between Ripple and Meritz Securities centers around Ripple Custody and infrastructure for representing real-world assets on blockchain networks. This setup provides Meritz with secure storage, transfer, and settlement capabilities.
Fiona Murray, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Ripple, highlighted that the company's enterprise offerings cover cross-border payments, asset custody, and tokenization. She added that Ripple holds over 85 regulatory licenses globally and operates in more than 60 markets.
This partnership lays the foundation for combining Ripple’s global digital asset infrastructure with our capital markets capabilities. As Korea’s regulatory framework evolves, we will prepare safe and trusted digital asset financial services in stages.
Byungha Kang, Managing Director of the Strategic Planning Unit at Meritz Securities, explained that the collaboration will move forward step-by-step as local laws evolve.
How Four Korean Partners Use Ripple Technology
Ripple's strategy in South Korea spans multiple sectors within traditional finance:
- Meritz Securities: Exploring spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), fractional investments, security tokens, trading platforms, and South Korean won-denominated stablecoins.
- Jeonbuk Bank: Deploying Ripple Payments to process international money transfers for businesses 24/7.
- Kyobo Life Insurance: Using Ripple Custody to evaluate on-chain holding, transfer, and settlement of tokenized government bonds.
- Kbank: Implementing institutional digital asset wallets via Ripple Custody for wallet creation, transaction authorization, and asset management.
From Cross-Border Remittances to Government Debt
Jeonbuk Bank was the first regional bank in South Korea to launch Ripple Payments, announcing its deal on August 18. The platform enables 24/7 settlements in seconds to minutes for import-export firms, tech startups, and online creators.
Kyobo Life Insurance is exploring how tokenization can modernize government bond markets. By testing Ripple Custody for government debt, the insurer aims to replace manual processing with automated, near-real-time blockchain settlements.
Meanwhile, Kbank, South Korea's first internet-only bank, is deploying institutional digital asset wallets. By using Ripple Custody, Kbank can safely manage assets without spending time and resources building proprietary wallet infrastructure.
South Korea's Emerging Regulatory Rules
Meritz and Ripple plan to expand their services as local regulations mature. On October 1, South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) introduced draft guidelines for issuing and trading tokenized securities, including stocks, bonds, funds, and fractional investments.
These regulations support upcoming revisions to the Securities and Electronic Registration laws, scheduled to go into effect on February 4, 2027. Public consultation remains open through November 11 before final approvals.
Additional Market Developments
In other company news, a recent report noted that a $10 million RLUSD donation from Ripple to support small business lending could help generate up to $900 million in gross domestic product (GDP) over a ten-year period.
As of October 15, 2026, major cryptocurrency markets showed BitcoinBTC-3.46% trading at $81,495 (down 2.67%) and EthereumETH-6.20% trading at $2,379 (down 5.39%).
