Crypto Market Data Signals Cooler Spot Activity Ahead

What the Latest Weekly Crypto Numbers Tell Us
Have you ever wondered how analysts get a feel for where the crypto market might head next? One popular method is tracking the movement of cash on the blockchain.
Recent data from tracking service Lookonchain shows that about $856 million in stablecoins left overall circulation last week. At the same time, trading activity on decentralized exchanges saw noticeable shifts.
Bitcoin was trading at around $82,859 at the time of writing, down nearly 5% over the past seven days. The leading cryptocurrency has hovered below the $85,000 level for several days amid lighter trading volumes — though short-term crypto prices remain volatile and subject to swift market reversals.
Where Did the Stablecoin Money Go?
Think of stablecoins like digital cash parked on the sidelines. Traders often keep funds in stablecoins like TetherUSDT+0.12% or USD Coin (USDCUSDC+0.12%) while waiting to buy Bitcoin or other tokens.
When stablecoin supplies shrink, it usually means there is less ready-to-spend cash sitting directly in the market. Most of last week's outflow came from two major networks:
- EthereumETH-0.95% Network: Shed approximately $726 million in USDT and USDC supply.
- SolanaSOL-3.83% Network: Saw a reduction of around $619 million in USDT and USDC.
- Tron Network: Moved in the opposite direction, adding $526 million in stablecoin supply.
While an $856 million exit sounds large, data from DefiLlama puts it into helpful perspective. The overall decline equals about 0.3% of all circulating stablecoins worldwide, which is a relatively small portion of total liquidity.
Spot Trading Drops While Futures Volume Rises
Decentralized exchanges, or DEXs, are platforms where users trade tokens directly from their private wallets without relying on a central intermediary. Activity on these platforms split into two distinct paths last week.
First, spot trading volume on DEXs — where buyers purchase actual tokens for immediate delivery — fell 19.34% week-over-week down to $47.84 billion. Popular platform Uniswap experienced a 25.8% decline in trading volume.
Second, perpetual futures volume moved in the opposite direction. These financial contracts allow traders to speculate on price moves using leverage, or borrowed funds. DEX perpetual futures volume rose 8.2% to $149.39 billion.
Trading volume data reflects total market activity, but it does not specify whether traders are placing bets on prices going up or going down.
How Corporate Treasury Holders and Miners Acted
Publicly listed companies that hold crypto on their balance sheets showed mixed behavior over the same period, reducing their combined holdings by a net total of 89 BTCBTC-1.51% (valued at roughly $7.37 million).
- CleanSpark: The Bitcoin mining company sold 173 BTC.
- Silvia, Inc.: Sold 165 BTC during the week.
- MicroStrategy: Continued accumulating by adding 250 BTC, though its purchasing pace has moderated.
- BitMine: Separately acquired 12,532 ETH valued at $31.75 million, even as it approaches its internal target cap for Ether holdings.
Signs of Activity Amid Market Cool-Down
Not every metric pointed to a slowdown. Total fees collected across major crypto applications actually rose 4.44% week-on-week.
Tether led all applications in fee generation, bringing in $122.06 million during the week.
Market participants will be watching upcoming stablecoin flows closely to see whether capital returns to the ecosystem or stays on the sidelines.
