Crypto ETFs See $152M Friday Outflow Led by BlackRock

Institutional Crypto Funds Finish the Week in the Red
U.S. spot cryptocurrency ETFs closed out Friday under persistent selling pressure. Institutional investors pulled a combined $152.07 million from BitcoinBTC-0.29% and EtherETH-0.86% funds in a single day, continuing a broader weekly pattern of portfolio risk reduction.
The wider market reflected this hesitant mood. Bitcoin traded down 0.98% at $81,477, while Ether fell 1.96% to $2,424. As a standard reminder for investors, past performance of digital assets is not an indicator of future results. You can view real-time price updates on the Bitkub Market.
Bitcoin ETFs Shed $82 Million Despite Active Trading
Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $82.39 million in net outflows on Friday. BlackRock's IBIT fund led the decline with $71.78 million in net redemptions, while Fidelity's FBTC saw $10.61 million leave its product.
Despite these exits, trading activity remained heavy. Friday's trading volume hit $2.66 billion, pushing total weekly turnover for Bitcoin ETFs above $10 billion. Total net assets for all Bitcoin ETFs stood at $104.29 billion at the end of the day.
This high trading volume reveals an important nuance: institutional traders are not abandoning the space. Instead, they are actively managing their risk during volatile conditions. Across the entire five-day trading week, Bitcoin ETFs lost approximately $228.6 million.
- Monday: Net outflows recorded
- Tuesday: Inflow rebound of $175.62 million
- Wednesday: Net outflows returned
- Thursday: Minor positive inflow of $5.06 million
- Friday: Net outflows of $82.39 million
Ether ETFs Experience Prolonged Institutional Selling
Ether funds suffered a steeper weekly trajectory than Bitcoin. On Friday alone, Ether ETFs registered $69.68 million in net outflows, which came entirely from BlackRock's ETHA fund. Total Ether ETF net assets dipped to $14.95 billion, with daily trading volume reaching $645.81 million.
Over the course of the week, Ether funds lost roughly $320 million in capital. Although Tuesday saw a brief $24.84 million inflow that snapped a 10-day losing streak, redemptions resumed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This ongoing pattern highlights sustained institutional caution toward Ether in the current economic environment.
SolanaSOL-0.87%'s Outflow Streak Extends to 10 Days
The pullbacks were not limited to the two largest cryptocurrencies. Solana ETFs lost $12.67 million on Friday through Bitwise's BSOL fund, marking 10 consecutive trading days of net outflows. Solana ETF net assets dropped to $1.62 billion.
The pace of Solana withdrawals picked up speed near the end of the week. After smaller early-week exits, Thursday saw $9.82 million leave, followed by Friday's $12.67 million exit, bringing total weekly Solana ETF outflows to about $25.5 million.
Other altcoin funds also experienced modest declines:
- XRPXRP-1.74% ETFs: Canary's XRPC fund lost $2.47 million.
- Zcash ETFs: Grayscale's ZCSH shed $1.22 million, bringing total Zcash net assets to $625.34 million.
NEAR Bucks the Trend with Positive Inflows
Amid widespread institutional selling, NEAR ProtocolNEAR-3.44% emerged as a notable outlier. Bitwise's NRR fund attracted $2.61 million in fresh institutional capital on Friday, continuing its trend of gaining funds during broader market downturns.
This positive sentiment coincided with Near Protocol expanding onto the Solana ecosystem via Sunrise. The integration allows NEAR immediate access to Solana wallets, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and liquidity aggregators, which drove a 14% jump in NEAR's spot market price.
Understanding the Bigger Picture
The ETF figures from this past week paint a picture of deliberate institutional rebalancing rather than panic. While total capital decreased across major digital asset funds, weekly Bitcoin ETF turnover exceeding $10 billion confirms that market liquidity remains deep.
Institutional investors are currently taking a more selective, risk-conscious approach. While temporary price rebounds can happen quickly, digital asset markets remain volatile, and fund flows can shift rapidly depending on broader economic conditions.
