Why Has Shiba Inu Major Burn Platform Shib Torch Stalled

What Happened to Shib Torch
If you have checked the official Shiba InuSHIB-4.92% website recently, you might have noticed something unusual. The primary automated burn portal for the ecosystem, Shib Torch, appears to have frozen.
Instead of displaying live statistics, the dashboard returns a blank interface with a failed to load burn information notice. This unexpected glitch led many token holders to wonder whether the system had stopped working entirely.
Fortunately, long-time community figures have stepped forward to explain the exact technical reasons behind the pause and what needs to happen before burns can start up again.
How the Community Discovered the Issue
The conversation began on social media platform X on October 22, 2026. Shiba Inu community member Ed Salomons posted a screenshot of the Shib Torch page located on the official website shib.io.
The screenshot showed an empty accumulation tab for SHIB alongside a persistent loading, constantly updating message. Salomons highlighted that the core goal of Shib Torch is to burn tokens with every transaction, making the frozen screen a puzzle for users.
How Shib Torch Burns SHIB Tokens
To understand why the system is currently quiet, it helps to review how Shib Torch operates under normal conditions. It is an automated mechanism designed to collect fees and destroy tokens across two different networks.
First, the system collects transaction gas fees on Shibarium, which is the Layer-2 network for Shiba Inu. These fees are accumulated in BONE tokens.
Second, once a specific threshold is reached, the smart contract automatically swaps those BONE tokens for SHIB tokens on Shibarium.
Finally, the contract uses a cross-chain bridge to move those SHIB tokens over to the EthereumETH-2.28% mainnet, where they are permanently deposited into an unspendable dead wallet.
Reason 1 The Missing Data Indexer
Long-time community expert Mazrael jumped into the discussion on X to clarify why the official website shows an error message.
According to Mazrael, the shib.io interface relies on a tool known as an indexer to read live data from the blockchain. Think of an indexer like an automated index card system that helps websites display contract numbers quickly.
The specific indexer that fed data to the Shib Torch page is no longer active. Without that data stream, the website defaults to showing a failed to load error, even though the underlying smart contracts remain intact on the blockchain.
Reason 2 The BONE Threshold Has Not Been Reached
Beyond the visual display error on the website, actual token burning is also paused due to smart contract rules.
To prevent excessive gas costs from running frequent tiny burns, Shib Torch requires a minimum accumulation of 1,000 BONE tokens before initiating a burn cycle.
Data extracted from alternative trackers shows that Shib Torch has collected 371.37 BONE so far. Because this figure is below the required 1,000 BONE threshold, any attempt to trigger the burn contract will automatically fail.
Reason 3 Paused Cross-Chain Bridge Routes
The third and most critical barrier involves the bridge connecting Shibarium to Ethereum.
Even if the community collected 1,000 BONE today, the tokens could not complete their journey to the Ethereum burn address.
The contract uses a specific function called exitandburn to claim SHIB through the bridge's ERC20 lane. However, the rootchainmanager contract has been paused and prevented from releasing ERC20 tokens out of escrow following a security exploit in 2025.
Until developer teams re-enable the bridge route for SHIB, automated cross-chain burning cannot resume.
How Much SHIB Has Shib Torch Burned So Far
While the main website remains unreadable, independent tracking tools like Shib Watch continue to monitor the smart contracts directly.
According to Shib Watch data cited by Mazrael, Shib Torch has achieved significant historical burn numbers:
- Total SHIB Destroyed: 69.32 billion SHIB tokens
- Total Estimated Value: Approximately $1.27 million at the time of execution
- Primary Fuel: BONE gas fees generated on Shibarium
Mazrael noted that Shib Torch remains the single largest recurring burn engine for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, standing second only to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
Looking Back at Vitalik Buterin Historic Burn
To put Shib Torch's 69.32 billion SHIB total into context, it helps to remember the largest burn event in crypto history.
In May 2021, Vitalik Buterin received 50% of the total SHIB token supply as a gift from the project creators. In a decisive move, Buterin transferred 410.24 trillion SHIB to a dead wallet, removing them from circulation permanently.
While community-driven mechanisms like Shib Torch operate on a smaller scale, they aim to provide consistent ongoing supply reduction over the long term.
Recent Patterns in Shiba Inu Burn Rates
The pause on Shib Torch occurs alongside wider fluctuations in daily burn statistics across the community.
On October 19, 2026, reports showed the overall SHIB burn rate jumped by 2,349% in a 24-hour window. However, because transaction sizes were modest, that percentage surge represented roughly $5 worth of SHIB destroyed.
Earlier that month on October 11, daily burns reached 1.45 billion SHIB, demonstrating how burn volumes can vary wildly day to day.
Digital asset prices remain subject to broader market conditions and unpredictable demand. Historical burn activity does not guarantee future market performance or token price movements.
What Lies Ahead for Shib Torch
The pause on Shib Torch is expected to be temporary while technical upgrades are completed.
Mazrael confirmed that Shib Torch is officially undergoing maintenance while developers work on restoring bridge connectivity and rebuilding data indexers.
Once the bridge infrastructure reopens its ERC20 pathways and gas collections cross the 1,000 BONE threshold, automated burning will resume as designed.
