Why Esports Giant NIP Group Is Expanding Bitcoin Mining

Esports Meets Crypto: The Big Move
Ninjas in Pyjamas is famous around the world for winning competitive video game tournaments. Now, its parent company, NIP Group, is making serious moves in digital currency.
NIP Group recently acquired its third batch of BitcoinBTC-0.61% mining hardware. To fund the purchase, the company issued over 247 million Class A ordinary shares.
Crunching the Numbers: 195 Bitcoin a Month
This new equipment brings NIP Group's total mining capacity to roughly 13.85 Exahashes per second (EH/s). That scale places them among the largest publicly listed Bitcoin miners in the world.
With this extra computing power, the company aims to mine around 195 Bitcoins every month. That is an increase of 35 Bitcoins per month over their previous target of 160 Bitcoins.
At market prices around $79,820 per Bitcoin, 195 coins equal about $2.8 million in monthly revenue. However, because crypto asset prices change rapidly, actual monthly revenues can fluctuate significantly over short periods.
"Now that this tranche is closed, we're at roughly 13.85 EH/s. That puts us among the largest publicly listed miners in the world, roughly 195 Bitcoin a month. That's real revenue, and it supports everything else we're building."
Why Expand During a Market Cooling Period?
Many companies buy equipment when crypto prices are skyrocketing. NIP Group chose the opposite route.
Founder and CEO Hicham Chahine explained that expanding while the market is cool offers better deal terms and lower competition. He noted that the team reviewed every part of NIP Group this year to improve profit margins.
Despite the expansion, stock market reactions were cautious. NIP Group's stock (NIPG) dropped 40.7% from $6.74 down to $4 following the announcement, reaching an all-time low. Over the same timeframe, Bitcoin dipped about 2% to $79,820.

A Future Pivot to Artificial Intelligence?
Bitcoin mining is not the only option for these data centers. NIP Group is open to shifting its infrastructure toward artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing.
Pivoting from Bitcoin mining to AI is not instant. Bitcoin miners use specialized chips (ASICs) that cannot run AI models. However, the underlying power connections, cooling systems, and physical space create a solid base for future AI computing hubs.
"We look at what AI and high-performance computing customers will actually pay... When those workloads clearly beat mining on returns, consistently and not just for a week or two, that's when we may move capacity. If the numbers say shift, we shift."
Who Is NIP Group?
