UK Trio Jailed After Failed Crypto Home Invasion

A Scary Break-In in Bristol
In the early hours of May 15, three men forced their way into a home in Bristol, England. Their goal was straightforward but terrifying: to force the homeowner into handing over a large sum of digital assets.
During the attack, the situation quickly became violent. The intruders struck the victim over the head, causing a severe injury that required immediate hospital treatment.
Quick Thinking Saved the Day
The situation could have ended even worse if not for the remarkable courage of the victim's teenage sister. Recognizing the immediate danger, she alerted the police without hesitation.
Her swift action allowed officers from the Avon and Somerset Police to arrive promptly and arrest all three suspects right at the scene.
Investigating officer PC Gemma Childs publicly commended the teenager's bravery. She noted that her quick response led directly to apprehending the criminals and protected her brother from severe ongoing harm.
Court Sentences and Impact on the Victim
All three men pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated burglary back in August. On Thursday, October 15, they appeared at Bristol Crown Court to receive their final sentences:
- Terroll Paul, 31, of Barking in London, received a 6-year prison sentence.
- Pierre Madzou, 30, also of Barking, was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison.
- Mohamed Samagassi, 37, of no fixed address, received 5 years in prison.
Police did not specify the exact amount of cryptocurrency the men demanded, but the emotional distress inflicted on the victim remains profound.
Before, I was bubbly, talkative and outgoing but now I would describe myself as tense and apprehensive.
What Are Crypto Wrench Attacks?
This incident highlights a disturbing trend known in the industry as a wrench attack. Rather than hacking code or sending phishing emails, criminals use physical threats or violence to intimidate holders into transferring their digital assets.
Similar crimes have been surfacing across the United Kingdom recently:
- In February, three teenagers were jailed following a $4.3 million physical robbery caught on police video in London.
- Last month, authorities offered a $10,000 reward after a couple in the West Midlands was violently targeted in a crypto-related home invasion.
A Sharp Increase in Physical Heists Globally
This isn't just an isolated issue in the UK. According to data from blockchain security firm CertiK, wrench attacks led to $124 million in global losses during the first six months of 2026 alone.
That figure marks a startling twelvefold increase compared to the exact same period last year. As cryptocurrency becomes more widely recognized, security experts recommend that asset holders take personal physical safety and operational privacy just as seriously as digital passwords.
