Trump Accuses Iran as Oil Tops $113 and Bitcoin Drops

Rising geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East is rattling global markets once again. Tensions flared up after former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Iran of fabricating sea attacks to artificially drive up crude oil prices. At the same time, Tehran warned that U.S. military bases in the region could become active targets.
The economic impact was quick to show across multiple asset classes. Brent crude oil jumped over 3.9% to cross $113 a barrel. Meanwhile, BitcoinBTC-3.46% felt the pressure from broader economic uncertainty, dropping nearly 4% in 24 hours to a low of $81,273.
Trump Claims Gulf Attacks Are Staged to Raise Oil Prices
In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump directly challenged the official narrative coming out of Tehran. He claimed Iran is making up reports of burning tankers and naval mines to force global oil prices higher right before the U.S. midterm elections on November 3.
According to Trump, the Iranian regime is doing everything possible to cause fuel price spikes. He asserted that reports of sea mine hits and tanker strikes are completely staged. Despite these claims of disruption, Trump noted that actual oil movement through the Strait of Hormuz remains robust.
In fact, Trump claimed that more oil is currently passing through the Strait of Hormuz than before the conflict began. Shipping data shows that Persian Gulf crude exports averaged around 24 million barrels per day during this timeframe. Trump also reaffirmed his firm security stance, repeating that Iran must never be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Iran is doing everything they can to drive up the price of Oil before the U.S. Midterm Election. They are making up fake hits, mines, and everything else... They must never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.
Iran Issues Warnings Against U.S. Military Bases
Despite Trump questioning the authenticity of the reported incidents, security concerns in the region continue to build. Iran issued a stern warning stating that it could strike U.S. bases in the area if commercial vessels continue using the U.S.-backed southern Omani corridor through the Strait of Hormuz.
This threat follows statements from Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy. They claimed to have struck four oil tankers conducting ship-to-ship transfers in the northern Persian Gulf, leaving all four vessels on fire. Tehran also reported that three additional vessels struck naval mines in the western portion of the strait.
Responding to these developments, Trump clarified that the U.S. is not engaging in negotiations with Iran. He added a short warning, hinting that something could happen soon.
Crude Oil Crosses $113 as Regional Conflicts Spread
Following the escalation in the Gulf, Brent crude prices surged over 3.9% to top $113 per barrel, reaching a five-month high. Market analysts are carefully tracking these events as security risks spread to critical infrastructure across the Arabian Peninsula.
In a related incident, Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi militants launched targeted drone and missile strikes on a civilian airport in Dammam as well as a major Saudi Aramco oilfield. The strike forced emergency evacuations of personnel working at the facility.
As a protective measure, the U.S. government ordered diplomats and non-essential staff to evacuate select posts in Saudi Arabia. The move boosted investor worries over persistent inflation and potential interest rate responses from major central banks.
