Rockstar's GTA 6 Overhaul: Will Wall Street Buy In Nov 19?

Rockstar Games has completely rebuilt its internal structure while developing Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). The studio nearly doubled its global workforce to 4,711 employees as it prepares for the game's official release on November 19.
Despite anticipation surrounding the upcoming title, parent company Take-Two Interactive (TTWO) has faced a tough year on Wall Street. Take-Two stock closed on Friday at $205.28, down 21.86% over the past 12 months. Past performance of a company's stock or financial asset does not guarantee future results.
How Rockstar Rebuilt Its Team to Tackle Crunch Culture
Developing major video games often comes with heavy workplace pressure. According to a report by Bloomberg News, Rockstar overhauled its production culture specifically to curb excessive overtime, commonly known as 'crunch' in the gaming industry.
While Bloomberg noted that the studio could not avoid extra working hours entirely, the scale of its restructuring was massive. Back in 2018, when Rockstar launched Red Dead Redemption 2, the company employed 2,441 people. By August, that headcount jumped to 4,711 workers spread across 12 global studios.
The development of GTA 6 has taken over eight years and experienced two major delays. The second delay set the official launch date to November 19. Rockstar leadership believes that this restructured workflow and expanded team will help shorten development times for its future game releases.
Wall Street Expectations and $3 Billion Revenue Projections
Financial analysts hold high expectations for GTA 6. Bloomberg reports that market analysts expect the game to reach approximately 40 million sales and generate $3 billion in revenue within just four months of its launch.
Take-Two Interactive has incorporated these expectations into its broader financial planning. In August, Take-Two reiterated its guidance for fiscal year 2027 net bookings, targeting between $8 billion and $8.2 billion. Net bookings measure the net amount of products and services sold digitally or sold in stores.
However, recent quarterly results highlight current operational pressures. In the June quarter—the first quarter of Take-Two's fiscal year—net bookings fell 3% to $1.39 billion. GameSpot reports that Grand Theft Auto titles typically account for less than 15% of Take-Two's total quarterly revenue, meaning the company relies on a broader portfolio of games to sustain cash flow.
Higher Game Prices and Analyst Targets
Pricing strategies have also shifted since the last main entry in the franchise. GameSpot reports that Rockstar set the standard edition price for GTA 6 at about $80. This is $20 higher than GTA V's launch price of $60 in 2013.
Wall Street analysts remain divided on how quickly stock values will react to the launch:
- StoneX analyst Mike Hickey maintains a Buy rating on Take-Two with a $300 price target.
- Assumptions: This target assumes that GTA 6 Online launches smoothly, console hardware sales recover from recent slowdowns, and revenue concerns around NBA 2K27 resolve favorably.
- Potential Risks: If online mode rollouts face technical delays, gaming console sales continue to weaken, or NBA 2K sales underperform expectations, Take-Two stock could experience price volatility or fail to reach analyst targets.
Leaks, Threats, and Xbox Streaming Clarifications
Security and intellectual property risks continue to linger around the project. A pseudonymous leaker previously threatened to spoil the ending of GTA 6 publicly if caught by authorities or security researchers.
In addition, industry rumors suggested that Microsoft's Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights for GTA 6. Xbox officially denied these reports this month, confirming no such exclusive streaming deal exists.
The November 19 Test
The November 19 launch date represents a crucial test for Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games. Investors will see whether eight years of development and a doubled workforce can deliver the initial sales that Wall Street expects, while testing whether Rockstar's new internal structure can truly streamline future game production.
