Polygon Expands Regulated US Payments With Coinme Deal

A Big Step Forward for PolygonPOL-5.86%'s Financial Services
Polygon Labs has officially completed its acquisition of Coinme, a licensed crypto payments firm. Announced on October 14, 2026, the deal gives Polygon a strong regulatory foundation across the United States as it builds out its financial services ecosystem.
Through this purchase, Polygon gains regulatory coverage in 48 US states. This coverage is supported by 37 state money transmitter licenses and 11 official state-level exemptions. Additionally, the business is registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as an official money services business.
What Is the Open Money Stack?
So, why did Polygon acquire a licensed payment firm? It all ties back to Polygon's unified platform called the Open Money Stack (OMS). The goal of OMS is to bridge traditional banking networks with blockchain technology.
In traditional finance, a company wanting to accept bank transfers, process credit cards, and move stablecoins often has to contract with many different software vendors. Polygon wants to simplify this by bundling those services into a single integration.
The Open Money Stack brings together four core tools into one system:
- Digital wallets for safe asset storage
- Smart payment routing to direct funds efficiently
- Blockchain technology for fast onchain settlement
- Direct integrations with standard bank accounts and payment networks
Why State-Level Regulations Matter So Much
Moving money legally inside the United States is a detailed process. Rather than having just one national license, companies usually need to apply for permission state by state through individual Money Transmitter Licenses (MTLs).
Securing these licenses across the entire country can take years of legal reviews and substantial capital. By acquiring Coinme, Polygon instantly inherits a broad compliance footprint, allowing businesses using its technology to operate legally across 48 states right away.
Four Companies Already Using the Technology
Polygon isn't launching this platform in a vacuum. Several global fintech platforms and financial apps are already adopting the Open Money Stack to streamline their transactions.
Tazapay
Tazapay serves more than 1,000 businesses and fintech firms across over 30 countries. The company is adopting Polygon's digital wallet and currency conversion tools to make international trade transfers faster and easier.
Mesh
Mesh operates a crypto payment network that links over 300 wallets, exchanges, and financial services. By integrating Polygon's fiat deposit tools, Mesh gives its users more choices for funding digital asset transactions.
Toku
Toku provides global payroll services for distributed teams. It relies on Polygon's payout infrastructure to help workers receive their earnings in stablecoins and easily convert those funds into their local domestic currencies.
Kira
Kira is an AI-powered financial services platform. It is using OMS to connect stablecoins directly with familiar US banking routes, including ACH, Fedwire, and the instant FedNow payment network.
Bridging Web3 and Traditional Finance
This acquisition highlights how blockchain development is expanding into everyday commerce. Instead of operating as isolated systems, networks like Polygon are linking up directly with standard banking tools.
By combining Coinme's legal structure with its own scaling networks, Polygon offers mainstream businesses a practical way to use stablecoins without having to build complex regulatory systems from scratch.
While digital payment networks offer helpful options for fast settlements, businesses and individuals should remember that financial regulations and digital asset markets continue to evolve. Staying informed about local regulations and market risks remains key when adopting new payment technologies.
