Nvidia, Pony.ai, inDrive Team Up for Kazakhstan Robotaxis

Self-Driving Robotaxis Are Headed to Kazakhstan
Autonomous vehicles are taking another step into global markets. Global ride-hailing platform inDrive has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chinese autonomous driving leader Pony.ai and tech hardware giant Nvidia.
Together, the three companies plan to launch trial runs for autonomous robotaxis in Kazakhstan. The pilot project will focus on testing self-driving technology on public roads under real-world traffic conditions.
Testing Timeline and Road Safety Plans
The Chief Technology Officer of inDrive, Yuri Misnik, confirmed the project details in an interview with TechCrunch. According to Misnik, road testing is set to begin in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, during the first half of 2027.
Safety will be the primary focus during the initial testing phase. Early passenger rides will not be completely driverless. Instead, a trained human safety operator will sit inside the vehicle to monitor performance and take control if necessary.
Once the technology proves reliable on local roads and meets regulatory safety standards, the team plans to transition toward fully driverless operations.
Key Highlights of the Agreement
- Partners: inDrive, Pony.ai, and Nvidia
- Location: Astana, Kazakhstan
- Target Launch: First half of 2027 (H1 2027)
- Safety Protocol: Human safety driver on board for initial trials
- Long-term Goal: Fully driverless commercial robotaxi service
Understanding the Key Companies Involved
