Ethereum Flashes Exchange Outflow Signal Last Seen in June

EthereumETH-2.16% recently witnessed a major shift in on-chain activity, with approximately 169,770 ETH moving off crypto exchanges on a net basis. According to analytics firm Santiment, this represents the single largest net outflow day for Ethereum in over four months.
When large amounts of crypto leave central exchanges, it usually means investors are moving their funds to private wallets for holding. This reduces the immediate supply available for sale on order books, which can relieve downward price pressure. However, digital asset markets remain volatile, and shrinking exchange supply alone does not guarantee a price surge if broader market demand stays soft.
Echoes of the June 5 Outflow Spike
Santiment pointed out that this recent supply drain mirrors a similar event on June 5, when around 223,800 ETH left exchanges in a single day. At that time, Ethereum had hit its lowest price point since April 2025 before staging a quick local price recovery.
While this historical comparison offers an interesting technical signal, Santiment reminded investors that past trends do not guarantee future performance. Past performance of digital assets is no guarantee of future results. Investors can follow current ETH market updates at bitkub.com/th/market/ETH.
Why US Investors and ETF Funds Are Hesitating
Despite coins moving off exchanges, demand from institutional and retail buyers in the US remains hesitant. Data from SoSoValue reveals that US spot Ethereum ETFs experienced net outflows on 14 out of 16 trading days in October, leading to total withdrawals of $1.18 billion through October 22.
These steady redemptions dragged total spot Ethereum ETF net assets down to $14.57 billion—the lowest figure recorded since August 21.
At the same time, American retail buying interest appears muted. CryptoQuant's Coinbase Premium Index sat at -0.134 after sliding throughout most of October. A negative index reading means ETH trades cheaper on Coinbase than on Binance, reflecting weaker US buying pressure.
Adding to the liquidity crunch, exchange stablecoin reserves have thinned steadily since April according to BeInCrypto. With fewer stablecoins sitting on exchanges, traders have less ready cash to buy dips, creating a gap between tightening token supply and hesitant investor demand.
Where Could Ethereum Head Next? Key Levels to Watch
At the time of writing, Ethereum was trading at $2,377.29, down 1.03% over the past 24 hours, sitting just below the key $2,400 pivot zone.
Market analysts hold differing views on how Ethereum might perform under various market scenarios:
- Santiment's View: If ETH can reclaim and hold above $2,500 under steady buying volume, the case for a local bottom gains strength. However, losing support around $2,330 could open the door to further downside risk.
- Ted Pillows' View: ETH recently touched the $2,350–$2,360 support zone and bounced, but overall momentum remains weak until it clears $2,550. If buyers push past $2,550, momentum could shift positively; if not, prices may continue to move sideways or down.
- Michaël van de Poppe's View: A dip below the $2,300 level might present a potential buying zone for a quick reversal if broader market sentiment stabilizes. Conversely, failure to hold lower support levels could lead to extended price consolidation.
- Ash Crypto's View: A bullish inverse head and shoulders pattern appears to be forming on the weekly chart. If confirmed by buying volume, upside potential could be notable; however, if market pressures break the setup, the technical pattern will become invalid.
Ultimately, whether Ethereum repeats its June rebound will depend on whether exchange outflows continue alongside a potential turnaround in institutional and retail demand.
