9 Companies Object to Tokenized Shares on OKXICE

Nine Companies Push Back Against Tokenized Stock Trading
Tokenized real-world assets have gained significant interest in the crypto sector, but major corporations are taking a cautious stance. Nine prominent companies have officially raised objections to having their corporate shares offered as tokenized assets on the OKXICE trading platform.
The list of objecting companies includes high-profile technology and telecommunications giants such as CoreWeave, Broadcom, and Verizon.
Key Concerns: Price, Liquidity, and Volatility
Why are corporate boardrooms hesitant about having their equity tokenized? Applied Optoelectronics, one of the nine objecting firms, provided key context during a recent conversation with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Applied Optoelectronics explained that it voiced objections because the company was uncertain about how digital tokenization would impact its core stock mechanics. Specifically, they pointed out three major areas of uncertainty:
- Stock Price Impact: Unregulated or separate trading on crypto platforms could create price disparities compared to traditional stock exchanges.
- Market Liquidity: Dividing trading activity across traditional and digital venues might fragment liquidity, making trading less efficient.
- Price Volatility: Continuous 24/7 trading on blockchain networks could lead to heightened price fluctuations compared to traditional market operating hours.
What Are Tokenized Equities?
Tokenized equities are digital tokens created on a blockchain network that represent ownership or track the price of shares in a publicly traded company. While advocates highlight benefits like fractional share buying and 24/7 accessibility, legal and operational frameworks are still evolving.
Because regulatory guidelines for tokenized real-world assets vary globally, market participants and listed companies continue to evaluate the compliance standards and operational risks associated with digital asset representations.
