Roger Ver Buying Bitcoin Cash Again? $163K Trade Rumors

A Mysterious $163,000 Crypto Trade Raises Questions
A recent high-value cryptocurrency transaction has caught the attention of blockchain sleuths. The trade has sparked rumors that prominent crypto figure Roger Ver might be accumulating BitcoinBTC-0.07% Cash (BCHBCH-4.84%) once again.
According to data from the on-chain analytics platform Onchain Lens, an unidentified crypto wallet recently traded 73.31 EthereumETH-0.39% for approximately 655.74 Bitcoin Cash (BCH). The total value of the transaction came out to roughly $163,000.
To complete the exchange, the user utilized THORChain. This is a decentralized cross-chain protocol that allows traders to swap native tokens across different blockchain networks directly without relying on a centralized exchange.
Because the transaction involved a noticeable purchase of BCH, community members quickly began speculating that Roger Ver—often referred to in the crypto community as 'Bitcoin Jesus'—could be the person behind the trade.
However, Onchain Lens emphasized that there is no definitive proof connecting the wallet directly to Ver. It remains entirely possible that another large trader or institutional investor executed the transaction.
Why Roger Ver and Bitcoin Cash Are Deeply Connected
To understand why a $163,000 trade generated so much attention, it helps to look at Roger Ver's long history with Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.
Ver was one of the earliest mainstream champions of digital assets, entering the crypto space back in 2011. In the early days, he promoted Bitcoin adoption so passionately that he earned the nickname 'Bitcoin Jesus.'
As Bitcoin grew in popularity, the network faced scaling challenges. This triggered a heated debate within the community regarding how to handle higher transaction volumes and rising network fees efficiently.
This rift eventually led to a hard fork in August 2017, which created Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as an independent blockchain network.
Ver became one of Bitcoin Cash's most vocal supporters. He passionately argued that BCH's larger block sizes and lower transaction fees kept it true to the original vision of a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.
Resolving a $50 Million Legal Battle with U.S. Authorities
The recent transaction speculation comes shortly after Roger Ver resolved a major legal battle with the U.S. government that lasted for more than a year.
In April 2024, Spanish authorities arrested Ver following accusations from U.S. prosecutors. The government alleged that he failed to pay roughly $48 million in taxes related to his substantial Bitcoin holdings and transactions.
Ver, who had renounced his U.S. citizenship back in 2014, maintained that the prosecution was unjust and fought the extradition process.
In June 2025, Ver escalated his legal defense by filing a case against Spain at the European Court of Human Rights to contest his extradition to the United States.
However, the dispute came to a major turning point in October 2025. Ver reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ver agreed to pay nearly $50 million in unpaid taxes, penalties, and interest to resolve the case. With that legal matter settled, public attention has turned back to his potential market activity.
Understanding Market Dynamics and Risks
While large on-chain trades often fuel social media excitement, market participants should remain objective. Wallet ownership on pseudonymous blockchains can rarely be confirmed without public verification from the owner.
Additionally, digital assets like Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin experience short-term price volatility driven by broader market shifts, regulatory updates, and investor sentiment.
