Brazil to Launch First XRP ETF

The world’s first XRP exchange-traded fund (ETF) is set to launch in Brazil soon, following approval from the country’s securities regulator, the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM).

The regulator’s website indicates that the HASHDEX NASDAQ XRP FUNDO DE ÍNDICE fund is in the pre-operation phase after being established on December 10, 2024. The fund’s custodian is Genial Investments, a local investment brokerage firm.

Fund manager Hashed confirmed to local news outlet Portal do Bitcoin that the fund has received approval from the CVM. While an official trading start date on Brazil’s B3 exchange has not been announced, Hashed said it would reveal more information soon.

Solana’s Inflation Rate Jumps 30% One Week After Fee Distribution Change

Solana’s (SOL) annual inflation rate has surged by 30.5% following a change in fee distribution implemented on February 12th. The amount of SOL burned daily has plummeted from nearly 18,000 SOL to 1,000 SOL.

The Solana Improvement Document 96 (SIMD 96) proposed using all priority fees to reward network validators instead of burning half of them, according to Blockworks researcher Carlos Gonzalez Campo. This change has increased SOL’s annual inflation rate from 3.6% to 4.7%. Additionally, the weekly SOL burn rate decreased by 6.93% from February 10th to 16th.

SIMD 96 has also impacted the Realized Economic Value (REV) distributed to token holders. According to on-chain data, token holders received 65.7% of Solana’s REV from February 3rd to 9th, which decreased to 58.9% from February 10th to 16th. Conversely, the percentage of REV distributed to validators increased by a similar amount during those periods. Notably, the daily timeframe shows that the token holders’ REV percentage, initially at nearly 72%, gradually declined to 40.9% by February 16th. Simultaneously, validators’ commission steadily rose from 25.1% to 56.1%.

Ethereum Transaction Fees Plummet 70% to Lowest Point Since 2020

The 7-day moving average (7DMA) of transaction fees on the Ethereum network fell to $0.77 on February 15th. This figure stood at $2.57 just a week earlier, representing a 70% week-over-week decline.

This drop has pushed transaction fees to their lowest level in over four years, meaning Ethereum transactions haven’t been this cheap since July 2020. Simultaneously, activity on the Bitcoin network has also recently plummeted to a 12-month low, with transactions down 55% from their peak.

The average gas price on Ethereum, measured in Gwei, further confirms this trend. Over the past week, the daily average gas price was 1.61 GWEI, with a low of 1.19 GWEI on Saturday, February 15th — the lowest figure since The Block began tracking this metric in January 2020. Moreover, this data point marks only the second instance of this figure falling this low since January 2020, with the other occurrence in September 2024.

Chainalysis Reports Crypto Becoming a Lifeline for Iran and Russia Amid Western Sanctions
