Ripple CEO Reaffirms XRP as Strategy Focus

What Does XRP as a North Star Mean?
Have you ever wondered where RippleXRP-1.52% is heading with all its new products? Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently cleared up any confusion about the company's ultimate goal.
In an interview published on Nov. 4, Garlinghouse reaffirmed that XRP remains Ripple's internal 'north star.' Even with massive attention surrounding Ripple's new stablecoin, Ripple USDRLUSD+0.10%, the core focus has not shifted.
"That wasn't intended to take away from what we call internally our north star... We only want to do things that are good for XRP."
This strategy builds on statements he made back in February. At that time, Garlinghouse identified XRP as the anchor connecting Ripple's payments, prime brokerage, treasury services, custody, and RLUSD.
During XRP Community Day, he highlighted three primary priorities for these business divisions: utility, trust, and liquidity.
How RLUSD Fits Into Ripple's Payments Strategy
Why launch a stablecoin if XRP is the main focus? Think of RLUSD as a complementary tool rather than a replacement for XRP.
Garlinghouse shared that about half of all RLUSD is issued directly on the XRP Ledger. The goal is to drive maximum liquidity, trust, and utility through XRP whenever possible.
To understand how both assets work together, it helps to see how businesses handle money across borders:
- RLUSD for Fixed Dollar Obligations: RLUSD is backed 1-to-1 by cash deposits, U.S. Treasuries, and cash equivalents. Its stable value allows businesses to settle dollar-denominated payments easily.
- XRP for Flexible Market Liquidity: XRP's market-driven price acts as a fast bridge currency between different global fiat currencies.
In separate comments on X on Nov. 3, Garlinghouse explained that RLUSD targets competing stablecoins, not XRP. He also stressed his preference for stablecoin use cases that run directly on the XRP Ledger.
Integrating $2.5 Billion in Acquisitions
Ripple completed $2.5 billion in acquisitions throughout 2025. Garlinghouse described 2026 as a pivotal year focused on integrating these acquired businesses.
The company sees substantial growth opportunities in treasury services and moving traditional payment activity onchain. In prime brokerage, roughly 20% of the business is already digital, and Ripple aims to increase that proportion.
Looking at a five-year institutional horizon, Garlinghouse envisions XRP operating as foundational financial infrastructure.
In a Swell video released on Oct. 28, he explained that Ripple prefers capturing even a small share of institutional transaction volume over none at all, integrating XRP wherever it fits customer needs.
Ecosystem Adoption Beyond Ripple
Ripple is not the only organization making XRP a core part of its financial operations.
Anodos Finance, a developer of XRP Ledger trading and wallet tools, demonstrates a similar approach. Co-founder and CEO Panos Mekras stated on May 31 that his company has purchased XRP for its treasury, held the asset, and paid staff in XRP since 2023.
Mekras noted that XRP utility spans several major networks:
- XRP Ledger: The native layer for fast payments and token issuance.
- SolanaSOL-1.02%: Enabling cross-chain activity across decentralized applications.
- Flare: Connecting decentralized applications directly with external data sources.
Building a Full XRPL Stack for Tokenized Assets
As traditional institutions explore real-world asset tokenization, Ripple is building an end-to-end infrastructure stack.
This stack includes token issuance, stablecoin tools, active trading, institutional custody, and credit facilities. Together, these services link back to the XRP Ledger to build deeper liquidity.
Market Context and Risk Factors
While expanding ecosystem utility can support adoption, asset valuations are driven by macroeconomic trends, regulatory shifts, and broader market sentiment.
